CYEK - Got it for 280,000 yen, half the crazy Japan list price of 560,000 yen, or two one ounce Perth Mint kangaroos. :D
About the same as retail in OZ.

As far as I know, they only make rugby players in NZ. ;)

For anyone that likes to use essential oils to scent their house and has a maki stove, try this

Image

Place a dry terracotta pot on top of a trivet on your stove and drip your oil of choice onto the upturned bottom of the pot. The pot heats up when you light the stove releasing the scent from your oil, right now our house smells of Hinoki.

Nice little life hack there Zasso.
I used to use the ceramic rings on top of an incandescent light, but since we changed to all LED, we haven't had smellies around.

Thanks Gonbechan,

It was thinking of those ceramic rings whilst staring at on old unused terracotta pot that gave me the idea.

Our DIY efforts over the New Year.
Cut up some hinoki from the land for the top and gave it a couple of coats of beeswax. The flat surface should come in useful when cooking.
Wood stove is being installed on Thursday. :D

That looks wonderful.
Good timing too with the stove. Bloody cold it is, this week.

Looks great Ian bet you can't wait to get it fired up once it has been installed.

How did you get such a nice neat cut on the Hinoki ?

That looks like a very nice stove!

May I make a suggestion, put a non flammable mat or carpet of some type in front of the stove (On top of your wood flooring) when you use it. Would hate to see your floor pockmarked with the scars of popping embers..

When I was a kid we had a linoleum floor in front of a wood stove in a house built way before fire codes existed, the linoleum looked like a minefield from all the burn marks!

That's a good idea, we need to extend the tiled area in front of our stove because of all the little burn marks
