I've had to euthanize several tanukis riddled with mange in the past. Sometimes you have to do the kind thing, and put them out of the misery, especially come the winter, when they will just suffer a slow death due to the elements and having no fur.

I don't know man, obviously do whatever works in your situation but to me that seems a bit like visiting the doctor with a slight sniffle and when asking him about some medication to clear it up he replies "Yes we could easily clear that up with some readily available and cheap medicine but I think we should get you over to Dignitas instead"
