Well I've got a suzumebachi nest on my property now.
Can I just spray it with a couple spray cans from 3m away? How far from the nest do they attack if you don't get close?

turn off all your house lights and pop out at night with a torch and sight the nest, turn off your torch and have at it with the spray gun and then head back inside as quick as possible. Providing it's pitch black they won't be able to locate you and you should be able to take out the nest without being stung.
3m might be safe in the dark but you can get cans that will reach 7m and the further away you are the less chance of getting stung.

THIS SPRAY absolutely does the trick.
But like Zasso says, do it at night and from 6 plus meters away you could duct tape a flashlight to shine from the opposite direction that you plan to spray from. Oh and DONT WEAR WHITE or light colours at night when you do it.
If you do it in the day time DO NOT WEAR DARK COLOURS.
The spray I linked to is really effective at killing them, just soak the hell out of the nest and general area.
