Awesome progress.
Things around the pond must be greening up too.

ZN - Re. getting a caterpillar track on.......use the yunbo arm to lift up one side of the machine > undo two bolts on a side plate > look everywhere for 36mm and 24mm spanners > I didn't have them > go to the local mechanic and ask nicely > return to the yunbo and loosen the caterpillar track locking pin for the front sprocket > put the track back on the sprocket > retighten and adjust the tension with the locking bolt > remember to lower the machine down again - difficult to use in the air unless it is pink - yunbo's can fly :D .........then source my own spanners for when (not if) it happens next time. ;)

Gonbechan - Yes, the sides of the ponds are greening up nicely in the rainy season. Should really take some more pics soon.....will attach a few from late May.

Saw two wild ducks there recently, also a small kingfisher.
Certainly a lot more bird life around there this year.
Plenty of tadpoles, including those of green tree frogs.
My sons released some medaka a month ago and I thought the kingfisher would have picked them out pretty quickly, can still see some swimming around though.
Put in a pipe from one of the side streams to trickle water through to some plants.

I think your pond might almost be edging into 'lake' territory Ian :D, looks really good.

That's not quite as difficult as I imagined getting the tracks back on the yunbo, not saying it's easy by any means but I kind of imagined you'd need lots of complex 're-tracking' tools and jacks to do it.

Made a short side road up near the ponds. Will leave the tree in place for now, can still drive the K truck up there, carefully. Mainly for walking though.

The edge of the pond is greening up nicely. Not much rain over August, but it held water the whole time.

Road to the top of the property completed. Opens up a big area with much easier access, walking and driving.

In the process of setting up a table and chairs at the top of the property. Not finished yet. In the future, some of the hinoki will be taken out and the view should be great.

Life is sweet.
Harvested two boxes of honey.

Looking very good Ian,

The table and chairs are wonderful, I wonder if archaeologists will ponder in the future on the origins of the Hyogo stone circle ?

We've seemingly had nothing but rain through most of August :(

The honey frames look awesome, is the queen excluded from them or do you get brood in the combs in Japanese hives ?

Yes ZN, the Hyogo Mountain Stone Circle points in the direction of the Hyogo Pond Stone Circle, which links to a beehive, with a hinoki between. Might keep minds of the future active. But we all know that Stonehenge was just made for hammocks. :D

Re. the bees. No excluder.
As the bees build down the brood is moved down too, leaving honey at the top. So, can only harvest e.g. two boxes at a time.
Also, no frames, just natural comb.

Ian, I think it is all looking quite stunning.
Next Spring will be the clincher I think. All the new trees you planted will bloom and it will be quite gorgeous.
Do you have fish in your pond yet?

Congrats on your hive. Have you thought about a hive sponsoring program? They are quite popular in other countries.

Thanks Gonbechan,

Only have medaka in the pond at the moment. My son released some this year and last weekend he was happy to see many baby ones.
The neighbour has put netting over his koi ponds to raise a few for us. They get eaten by the birds every year, so we’ll have to wait until the koi are reasonably big.

Good idea re. the hive sponsoring. Will keep it in mind, thanks.

We were given around five hundred oak logs for shiitake and should finish off inoculating them this week.
