Job Hunting

Post by dayunbao » Thu May 16, 2019 2:55 am

Probably not much point in posting this, but if anyone knows of any work (besides English teaching) in Japan, I'd appreciate a heads up. I'm a software engineer, but am open to other kinds of work.

Thanks! That website specializes in finding service jobs, but the company that makes the website is hiring software engineers! So, I applied.

Their website, in case you haven't seen it, also has a nice summary of expected salaries.

RE: Looking for Jobs

If you are looking for work, don't underestimate the networking that you can do by teaching English.

Looking for work in the software industry? Why not see if there are any jobs teaching English at one of those places and use that to get a foot in the door!!

Another place to look for work that might help you is the local "International Center". Nagoya has one. Does your local area have one? They might not be really great jobs, but they could lead to some opportunities.

They used to have a bulletin board with jobs on it. When starting out it was a good place to look.

Some of those software developer salaries look really nice (almost like what university types used to get back in the day!!) - good luck.

That's the site I was trying to look for.
It used to be https://devjobsthatdontsuck.jp, not sure why they didn't have the old one redirected or something.

It's very handy for those wanted to get underpaid in Japan as a developer. Reason I wasn't interested in IT here was because of the salary, that and probably the long hours.

For some reason or other IT work doesn't seem to be as handsomely remunerated in Japan as elsewhere and the hours many Japanese companies expect their IT workers to do is unreasonable. It might be different working for a foreign company .
