Typhoon 17/21 check in

Post by gonbechan » Mon Oct 23, 2017 1:31 pm

Typhoon 21 check in.

Safe and sound after a night of shaking house and howling winds.
There was forced evacuation due to the rivers but we pretended to have already left when they came banging on the doors (after several loudspeaker trucks, river alarms etc)
The river came to about 50cm to overflow (according to the river cam site) but all was well. At about 2am the rivers started to slowly recede and we got to sleep at about 3ish.

I hope everybody else is well and looking forward to your report here.

We are OK, but the road to town took a beating.

completely unscathed here, don't think there were any branches broken even.

All good here,

We also ignored the evacuation order as we are fairly safe up here and didn't fancy a night in the community centre, however it was a pretty wild ride and sounded like there were several trees in the forest that took a hit. Luckily no damage to the house and just some minimal damage to the poly tunnels and veggies.

Hope every one else is good.

Well apparently we're not done with typhoons this year, #22 has set it's sights on Japan and should be here early next week. No forecast on the size and intensity yet but I think we can all agree we probably don't have a desperate need for another typhoon now. Lets hope it decides to go elsewhere or fizzles out completely.

Bugger

Looks like we get one last typhoon, hoping we don't get the 'salt wind' like last time. That caused a hell of a lot of damage to sensitive leaves and most of the momiji around us now have dead crispy leaves so not much autumn colour this year.
