Oi! from Nagano
Just here to see what I can learn from everybody. Been living in Japan since 1990, and the wife and I are transitioning from working to being retired farmers. She's keen on it, but honestly, I got my fill of that when I was a kid.

Welcome to the party.
I'm in neighbouring Yamanashi and hope you'll enjoy the friendly comraderie of the group.
Lots of advice and information that will hopefully make your transition to retired life easier.
Have fun.

oi oi
What was Japan like during the 90s?
What was Japan like during the 90s?
I write a load of bollocks, don't take me seriously.

Japan in the 90s is much like it is now. The same trees, the same hills, the same rivers.
That's a hard question to answer. Nothing really changes but the changes. So what has changed? I'll be 60 years old next year, so how the hell would I know?
There were beer vending machines. People seemed to party a lot more, and girls showed more leg. It was a really good time to be in Japan. Honestly, I don't know if it's me getting older, or Japan getting older, but it seems like it's changed with me. The local red light district that used to jump is now a ghost town.
What was Japan like in the 90s? It was frickin' awesome!

ha!
Has TV here always been this bad or has it just got worse over time do you know?
Also I guess Akihabara back in the 90s was a lot better than what it's become today? The Difference between my visit in 2005 and then in 2015 was big, all the decent shops vanished and slowly turned into your standard tourist orientated crap.
People who move here now have it easy compared to 30 years ago, smartphones for finding whatever whenever so no need to hassle the locals for finding places, websites with countless info and tips on living here and so on.
I'm just trying to picture how I would have handled living here without any of that, my Japanese probably would have improved more because I would actually be talking to people instead of staring at a screen.
How did you manage moving here at the start?

Welcome to Japan Simple Life Insane and thank you for taking the time to sign up, we really do appreciate that.
Ah, the perfect time to transition to a life of back breaking toil and labour , I jest, I'm not that far off from reaching 60 myself . Farming is a lot easier now with all the machinery you can get. What sort of plan do you have ? Self sufficiency or something larger to keep you active and healthy and sell produce ?
