Eco-Cute - Hot water heaters

Post by Zasso Nouka »

Not sure of the exact temp but it's somewhere just short of boiling. When the solar water heater reaches that point and pressure starts building up in the tank the release valve triggers and vents water, that release of pressure causes cold water to enter the tank and cool the water down as it mixes and the release valve closes. This has only happened a couple of times with us and you have a little sensor panel that shows you the internal tank temperature that you mount somewhere convenient indoors so you can check it.

Not sure what temp you'd set the mixer valve at the water inlet on your eco-cute but our installer suggested around 40C for the inlet on our boiler, we've since moved it up to 42C. Our boiler has a temp sensor on the inlet so if the water is hot enough it doesn't fire up the gas. Your installer would suggest what temp to set your mixer valve at for your eco-cute but I have no idea what that would be, just go with whatever he suggests.

Ah that makes sense, so the tank on the solar heater itself will vent and not allow extra water into the Mains water heater - Not sure if we'll go with the eco-cute atm because of the costs. Thought we would be getting that rebate but can't get it cause we also need to do extra earthquake stuff all through proper construction companies and that's out of our price range at the moment. Think we will be going either lease, or for a classic and solar heater which is what I'm trying to steer the wife towards considering the price savings that have been mentioned here. Also we want a fireplace so if someone's on the roof may as well do the water at the same time

Exactly, once when our tank got too hot it dumped the entire contents but the second time it dumped about half of the tank. Personally I'd mount the heater on the ground if you have the space as it makes cleaning the tubes and any maintenance a much less terrifying experience than lugging tools up on the roof :D
