Hiroshima Prefecture 0円 house

Post by gonbechan »

Free 3DK+Sunroom house with 140tsubo of land. (tranfer fees and possibly gift tax required)
Located on Sagi Island in Hiroshima Prefecture.
There is high speed ferry access to Mihara City where shinkansen will get you almost anywhere you want to go.
Check out Sagishima Guide for info on the island.

The house needs some repairs but it is not a large house and possibly it is a good DIY project.

Wow, only just found out about this website and that is right in my backyard. I will actually be going to Sagi on Saturday to pick mikan with the locals, so I will try and nab some better exterior shots if I can. It's at the other port though so a bit far away by foot. I have driven/walked past the area a couple of times.

Any questions about the area, I will try and answer.

Welcome to JSL Bob,

Nice to have you onboard. Would be great to have some exterior shots if you can spare the time but please don't go out of your way or anything. Or maybe just some general shots of the area, posted here or in the countryside pictures thread, while you are picking mikan would be nice.

What is small island life like ? Strong sense of community I imagine.

Strong sense of community but the island is very much onboard with getting visitors and pushing English at the local elementary school. My mate is in charge of local area rejuvination in Mihara, Sagi shima and Kosagi shima, the little island next door. He is getting an AirBnB renovated on Sagi and have helped him out a few times. They are pushing events like eco-marathons etc.

As he described it, "Island life is freedom" as a bunch of old drunks guys drove off after giving us a bunch of wild boar for our bbq ;)

Sounds really positive and nice to hear about an area that has some encouraging plans to draw newcomers in. Although it's nice visiting Tokyo from time to time when you look at the living conditions and tiny apartments most folk have to live in you are left wondering why so many tolerate it and don't seek a better quality of life in a countryside community that wants new people like yours.

Didn't get a chance to get to the property, but managed to pick around 100 mikan and had a nice inoshishi curry for lunch :) Met some lovely folks from the island and Onomichi as well.

This album has a bunch of photos of the island

Wow, that's an absolutely beautiful place to live. Love the contrast between sea, mountains and sky. I never realised mikan trees were so small, makes for much easier picking.

Thanks for posting Bob
