Night Time Trail Camera Footage
We often see unknown animal foot prints around our land have been lucky enough to see various wild animals going about their business in the early evenings but they don't normally hang around for long when they see us so we recently bought an infra red trail camera to see who was visiting and what they were up to.
So far we've recorded Tanuki visiting
And obviously there are a lot of videos of our cats on patrol at night
It's quite interesting to know what is going on out there at night and will add more videos as we record anything interesting.

I have a red spotlight which I use when deer spotting at night. Often times I shine it out over my land at night and catch orange eyes shining back at me. Lots of badgers where I live. Also, foxes, boar, owls, moles and even the odd deer.

Re: Night Time Trail Camera Footage
There's probably a whole world of activity going on outside at night that we are completely unaware of. The Tanuki seem to have got quite used to us and we often see them walking past the house windows at night and have occasionally seen their little faces peering in or seen paw marks on the glass in the morning. Most of the other creatures we have so far we only know from their foot prints but we also have several owls that talk to each other from different parts of the forest at night. You can hear them talking when we have the house windows open at night, it's quite amusing.

Where did you get your camera and how much was it? I think I might also invest in one...

Re: Night Time Trail Camera Footage
It's quite a fun hobby and we look forward to checking the camera in the mornings, mostly we have video of our cats going back and forwards on night patrols but it's still interesting. I got ours from Trailcampro, their reviews are very helpful when deciding which model to go for. We got the Stealth Cam DS4K, one thing I would say about this model is the trigger speed is not fantastically fast, it's not bad by any means but there are other cameras that trigger faster, however all in all I'm pretty happy with it. The main plus with this camera is the quality of the images and videos. Battery longevity is also something worth looking into, we've currently been running it for 6 weeks on AA sized rechargeable NiMH batteries and it's still got plenty of power left, our previous camera ran it's batteries down in 2 weeks so became a real pain having to put new batteries in every couple of weeks. I reckon two months is probably doable between recharges. Video drains the batteries faster than pictures as the infra red emitters have to be on for longer. A good 'no glow' camera can double as an invisible cctv camera should you ever get bored of watching the wildlife around you or have a need to use it for that purpose.
Good luck and would be interested to see what animals you have around if you order one.

Re: Night Time Trail Camera Footage
Some more trail camera footage.
From time to time we feed the community cat Bigby, he is kind of shared between several houses in the village but recently his bowl has been getting moved around and turning up in unusual places so we set the game camera up again to see if we could pinpoint the suspects and I think we found them.
First up is me feeding Bigby last night.
Suspects 'A & B'
Suspect 'C'

Re: Night Time Trail Camera Footage
One of the local Tanuki's came back last night to see what was left in the bowl
I'm thinking from this video and the last tanuki one that they may be able to see the infra red light from the camera. To the human eye it is completely invisible and the raccoons and cats don't seem to notice it but you can definitely see the tanuki warily looking directly at the camera which would suggest they can see it.

The raccoons seem to be dropping by more often now, they have a kind of ambling walk
