For the lazy vegetable grower fitting a drip irrigation system saves a lot of time and it's fairly easy to change the layout from season to season or year to year. As water isn't splashed onto the leaves you have a reduced chance of fungal infections and also as the water is directed right to the plants the amount of water used is much less than watering with a normal hose pipe or watering can.

Seed and Farming resources.
Please post your favorite places/links to get things.
Some great seed places.
http://www.kobayashi-seed.com/
http://takaginouen.com/
They have their seeds divided up by planting season which is nice.
http://www.nogyoya.com/
They have blackberry and raspberry seeds too.

I have used Tane no Mori for many years. They seem to have a lot of the same seeds as SeedSavers in the US.

Takii & Sakata have always served us well. Good germination rates and great consistency from year to year, Takii in partcular put a lot of effort into developing good, strong and reliable lines. We've tried other companies sweet peppers but the plants are never as strong and healthy as Takii pepper plants
Takii seed shop
Sakata seeds
The good thing about both of them is their seeds are widely stocked in home centres and taneyasans
Noguchi Seed have some interesting varieties.
Green Field Project specialise in organic seed.
Life With Green are mostly western vegetable seeds
Nakahara Seeds down in Kyushu have some of the best germination rates going and again their varieties are all very healthy and strong. They also have some interesting salad crops and sprouts

A couple of seed companies to avoid due to really poor germination rates
Fujita Seed
And
Tohoku Seed Co Ltd
Multiple packs of different varieties with germination rates around 10% or less

Happy solstice everyone, at least the days will be getting longer from now on and with that in mind here are a couple more seed companies that I've found to be quite good.

Are those sites any good for ordering single packs of seeds?
I've also looked at Sakata's online store which seems to charge around ¥200 per pack for shipping. Might be cheaper in some cases to just buy at the home center.
