I notice there aren't any posts about rain barrels (that I could find anyway) so I thought I'd start one.
Perhaps most places are getting enough rain to not need one, but I'm planning to put one on the side of the house furthest from the hose and right next to my little hot house.
I plan to run piping from the downspout on the corner of the house to the barrel. I'm just not decided if I want to raise the barrel and put a spigot on the bottom for gravity feed, or partially bury it and put a pump on the top. (I'm kind of leaning towards the partial bury just so it's not such a prominent feature.)
Any tips / advice / experience?

That thread is a bit of a mess because some of the posts got deleted when GaijinFarmer asked for his account to be deleted. I think from now on when deleting an account we'll leave the posts behind.
Perhaps we can make this thread a better replacement with a bit more input.

Re: Rain Barrels
I think I've decided on what rain tank I'm going to get once I have space for it.
The 500L version of this one:

I saw it at my local Yamashin for around ¥11,000. Unfortunately, it seems most of the online retailers don't ship to homes.

Sometimes you can contact the seller and have it dropped at the local distribution center for the shipping company (営業所止め? えいぎょうしょどめ?)。 you can pick it up there. I've done that with larger items that couldn’t be delivered or risked additional penalties if I wasn’t waiting at the front door all day for the delivery truck.farmingnoob wrote: ↑Tue Dec 03, 2019 8:14 amUnfortunately, it seems most of the online retailers don't ship to homes.

Re: Rain Barrels
Amazon have a blue 500 litre tank and you can also get black for around the price you are looking at and I for one would like to see that squeezed into an enormous Amazon box. They normally deliver direct to home.
