Hello Herro and welcome to Japan Simple Life, also thank you so much for taking the time to join. We really do appreciate that.

So, you are raising free range chickens back in the Philippines. Are they for eggs or meat or a bit of both ? You've probably already found the link @Eric in Japan posted but just in case not here it is again Piyokan. They have different breeds throughout the year.

If you are after chickens for meat then you may already know about Sasso Chickens but if not here is a link to their site Sasso Chickens. They ship all over the world and breed slower growing birds that produce superior meat to the quick growing broilers commonly for sale.

I'm currently using two 'egg' breeds from Goto Hatchery, Sakura and Momiji. They are smaller in body than breeds like Okazaki Ouhan and so consume somewhat less food but produce quite nice large eggs, pink for the Sakura's and Momiji lay brown eggs.

The NLBC at their Okazai Ranch breeds some interesting varieties that you might like to see. There's also a centre here in Chiba that has some older traditional Chiba breeds but I can't find the link right now, will try and dig it out for you.

You're welcome.

How were the Sasso ? I've not yet raised any but am thinking of trying them in the future, is there a big difference in the meat quality to fast raised broilers ?

Nothing to add here, except I would greatly enjoy hearing chicken tales.

Sasso isnt that bad if you really want Meat but the egg production is meh and talkin' about meat quality, yes there is big difference.

here is my big boy it's almost the same size to Sasso.

I haven't seen Nagoya Cochin eggs for sale only chicks but there must be somewhere selling them. I can say the males are good eating . Lovely big birds with great flavour.
